Getting Paid Through Stripe and Amazon With a US LLC: The Complete Guide for Non-Resident Founders

You’ve built the product. You’ve found the customers. You may even have a payment processor that works in your own country. But the moment you want to sell into the US market properly, through US Stripe, Amazon US or TikTok Shop US, you hit a wall.

These are US platforms, built for US businesses. As a founder registered outside the US, you’re either locked out, pushed through extra verification, or left converting every dollar payment into your local currency and losing 2% to 5% on each one.

At GenZone, we hear this from founders every week: coaches in Austria, SaaS founders in Australia, e-commerce brands in the UK, consultants in Dubai, and agencies in Manila and Karachi. The product is rarely the problem. The missing piece is a US business that US platforms will accept.

A US LLC gives you exactly that, but only if every piece is set up to fit together. This guide walks through what US platforms look for, how to set up Stripe and Amazon step by step, how to get the tax interview right, and how to keep your payouts flowing once you’re live.

In this guide:

  • Why US payment platforms are out of reach for non-resident founders
  • What a US LLC unlocks
  • The four things US platforms check
  • Step-by-step US Stripe setup
  • Step-by-step Amazon US setup
  • Getting the tax interview right
  • Keeping your payouts flowing once you’re live

Why US Payment Platforms Are Out of Reach for Non-Resident Founders

Most founders can already accept payments at home. Stripe operates in many countries, and local processors cover most markets. The problem is that a local account is not a US account.

US Stripe, US PayPal Business, Amazon US and TikTok Shop US are built around the US financial system and US-registered businesses. When you apply from outside the US, you typically run into one of three obstacles.

Your Local Account Isn’t a US Account

A Stripe or PayPal account in your country is tied to your country’s entity, banking and currency. It isn’t the same as a US Stripe or US PayPal Business account, and in some countries, such as mainland China, Stripe isn’t available at all.

US Marketplaces Favor or Require US Businesses

TikTok Shop US requires a verified US business with an EIN. Amazon US is far simpler for a US-registered seller, and your brand reads as a US seller to American buyers.

Currency Conversion Eats Your Margin

Without a US account, every USD payment is converted into your local currency, and conversion quietly takes 2% to 5% off each transaction. US clients may also hesitate to wire money abroad or approve a vendor that isn’t US-registered.

None of this reflects on the quality of your business. It’s purely a question of where your business is registered and banked.

What a US LLC Unlocks

A US LLC lets you apply to US platforms as a US business, wherever you personally live. US Stripe asks for your EIN and formation documents, not a Social Security Number.

With a properly structured US LLC, you can:

  • Accept card payments through US Stripe and US PayPal Business
  • Invoice, receive and hold funds in USD, without losing 2% to 5% to currency conversion
  • Sell on Amazon US, TikTok Shop US, eBay and Etsy, and activate Shopify Payments, subject to each platform’s own approval
  • Present a US business that American clients and procurement teams recognize and trust
  • Keep your name off the public record with a Wyoming LLC

You don’t need US citizenship, residency, an SSN or a trip to the US to own one. If you’re still deciding whether a US LLC is right for you, start with our complete guide to opening a US LLC as a non-resident. This article assumes you’ve made that decision and focuses on getting paid.

The Four Things US Platforms Check

The most common mistake we see is founders treating each step as a separate task. They form the LLC with one provider, get the EIN elsewhere, open a bank account wherever they’re approved, and then apply to Stripe. When the details don’t line up, the application gets flagged.

US processors and marketplaces check that everything matches. You need four things aligned.

1. The LLC Itself

US Stripe and Amazon US will ask for your state-filed Articles of Organization, so the LLC must be properly formed with a Registered Agent and an Operating Agreement. For most founders forming for payments, Wyoming is the usual choice.

2. An EIN (and an ITIN Only If You Need One)

Your EIN is your company’s federal tax ID, and it’s what unlocks US banking, Stripe, PayPal and Amazon. Every day without one is a day you can’t open a US bank account or start invoicing.

This is where non-residents hit the biggest delay. A US resident gets an EIN online in minutes, but a founder without an SSN can’t use the IRS online portal and must apply by phone, fax or mail, which can take six to eight weeks. Through our fast EIN processing, we typically secure it in 3 to 5 business days.

You don’t need an ITIN to get an EIN or to open US Stripe or Amazon US accounts. Whether you need one personally is a separate question, covered in our guide to LLC, EIN and ITIN for non-resident founders.

3. A Real US Business Bank Account

This is where US Stripe and Amazon US send your payouts, so it must be a genuine US account in the LLC’s name, with a routing number, account number and debit card. Through our USA banking service, we work mainly with Mercury, Relay and Slash, with USD wire access included. Most accounts are approved within 3 to 5 business days. The right bank depends heavily on where you live, covered in the next section.

4. Consistent Details Everywhere

Your company name, EIN, address and business description must be identical across your formation documents, bank application and platform applications. A registered agent address on one document and a different address on another, or a vague business description, gives a reviewer a reason to decline that has nothing to do with your eligibility.

Get the Bank Account Right Before You Apply

No US bank account means no US Stripe or Amazon US payouts, and this is where many non-resident founders get stuck. Your country of residence, not the quality of your business, usually decides which bank will approve you. Mercury, Relay and Slash each restrict different countries, so a rejection from one doesn’t rule out the others.

We cover each bank’s rules in detail in US business banking for non-resident LLCs by country. Read it before you apply, so your first application goes to the bank most likely to approve you.

US Stripe: Step-by-Step Setup

US Stripe looks for a legitimate US business with a clear product. Follow these steps in order.

  1. Prepare your documents. Have your EIN confirmation letter from the IRS and your state-filed Articles of Organization ready.
  2. Open your US bank account first. US Stripe pays out to a US account in the LLC’s name, so connect it before going live.
  3. Prepare your website. Make sure it clearly shows what you sell, your pricing, and your refund, privacy and contact policies.
  4. Describe your business accurately. Vague or generic descriptions often lead to reviews and payout holds. State exactly what you sell and to whom.
  5. Use matching details. Enter the company name, EIN and address exactly as they appear on your formation and bank documents.
  6. Complete the tax interview correctly. Stripe may default to a W-9 because your business address is in the US. If you live outside the US, don’t accept this default; complete a W-8BEN as the individual owner. More on this below.

Common Reasons US Stripe Applications Stall

  • The address or business name differs between Stripe, the bank and the EIN letter
  • The website has no clear product, pricing or policies
  • The business description doesn’t match what the website sells
  • The application goes in before the EIN or bank account is in place

Because GenZone structures the LLC, EIN and bank account together, US Stripe and PayPal applications typically go through smoothly. That’s a major reason our founders are usually accepting payments within 7 to 10 business days of starting.

Amazon US: Step-by-Step Seller Setup

Amazon US seller verification is document-heavy, and small inconsistencies cause most delays. Prepare everything before you start the application.

  1. Gather your identity and company documents. Your passport, the LLC’s Articles of Organization and your EIN confirmation letter.
  2. Have your US bank account ready. Amazon US sends disbursements to a US account in the LLC’s name.
  3. Match every detail exactly. Business name, address and owner details must match your documents precisely, including spelling and address format.
  4. Answer the tax interview as a non-US person. Amazon’s tax interview asks whether you’re a US person. If you own a US LLC but live abroad, the answer is no. Amazon then directs you to the W-8BEN flow, where your name and country of residence go in as the beneficial owner.
  5. Respond to verification requests quickly. Keep your documents organized so you can answer follow-up requests without delay.

The Same Rules Apply to TikTok Shop US and Other US Marketplaces

TikTok Shop US, Shopify Payments, eBay and Etsy follow the same principles: a US entity with an EIN, a US bank account, and consistent details everywhere. A clean, aligned document package is what keeps verification smooth.

Getting the Tax Interview Right

US Stripe and Amazon US both run a tax interview before they pay you, and this is where costly mistakes happen. The pitfall is simple: because your LLC has a US address, the platform may prompt you to complete a W-9, the form for US persons.

If you live outside the US, owning a US LLC doesn’t make you a US person. A solo founder typically completes a W-8BEN in their own name, not the LLC’s. Submitting the wrong form, or none at all, can lead the platform to withhold up to 30% of your US-source payouts.

Our guide to W-8 and W-9 forms for foreign-owned US LLCs explains which form applies to you and how to fill in each section. Keep it handy while you complete your Stripe and Amazon interviews.

Keeping Your Payouts Flowing Once You’re Live

Getting approved is the first milestone, not the last. US Stripe, Amazon US and your bank can all review an account after approval, and most payout holds we see are preventable. A few habits keep your money moving.

Keep Your Details Identical

If you change your address or business name, update it everywhere at once: state records, bank, Stripe and Amazon.

Keep Your Activity Consistent With Your Description

If you told Stripe you sell online courses, a sudden surge in physical product sales could trigger a review. Update your business description as your business evolves.

Keep Your Tax Forms Current

A W-8BEN is typically valid until the end of the third calendar year after you sign it. Once it lapses, platforms may start withholding again.

Keep Your LLC in Good Standing

US banks and processors notice when a company falls out of good standing. That means an active Registered Agent, your annual state report on time, and the annual Form 5472 and pro-forma 1120 filing, due by April 15th even if the LLC earned nothing.

Missing that federal filing carries a $25,000 penalty, which is why our in-house CPAs handle it through our Bookkeeping & Compliance service, alongside bookkeeping and bank reconciliation.

When budgeting for all of this, remember that formation prices rarely show the full picture. See what a $0 US LLC really costs by year two and compare providers in our top 10 US LLC formation services for non-residents.

How GenZone Brings It Together

We designed our US LLC service so formation, EIN, banking and compliance work as one setup rather than four separate tasks. Here’s how a typical founder goes from first call to accepting payments on US platforms:

  1. Submit your details (about 10 minutes). Your company name, a copy of your passport and a short business description.
  2. LLC filed and formed (24 to 48 hours). Articles of Organization filed, Registered Agent assigned and Operating Agreement drafted.
  3. EIN issued (3 to 5 business days). Your IRS EIN confirmation letter and a complete document package, ready for US banks and platforms.
  4. Bank and processors live (2 to 3 days). Your US business bank account, debit card, and US Stripe and PayPal applications, all with matching details.
  5. Ongoing compliance. Our in-house CPAs handle annual Form 5472 and 1120 filings, Registered Agent renewals and bookkeeping.

Most founders are fully operational within 7 to 10 business days, without ever travelling to the US.

Everything is managed through the GenZone platform, where you can track formation, access documents, manage banking and see every compliance deadline. You’ll also have a dedicated relationship manager on WhatsApp, with no ticket queues.

By the numbers: We’ve formed over 1,400 companies, issued more than 600 ITINs and opened over 100 personal US bank accounts for founders across 50+ countries.

For founders who also want 0% personal income tax and UAE residency, many combine their US LLC with a Dubai free zone company. We manage compliance for both in one place.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I already use Stripe in my country. Why do I need a US LLC?

A Stripe account in your country is tied to your local business and banking. A US LLC lets you open a US Stripe account, get paid in USD into a US bank account, and present a US business to American customers.

  • Can I use US Stripe if Stripe isn’t available in my country?

Yes. A properly formed US LLC with an EIN and a US bank account lets you apply to US Stripe as a US business, regardless of where you live. Stripe asks for your EIN and formation documents, not an SSN.

  • Can I sell on Amazon US and TikTok Shop US as a non-resident?

Yes, subject to each platform’s verification. You’ll need your passport, formation documents, EIN and a US bank account, with all details matching exactly.

  • Which tax form do I give Stripe or Amazon?

    If you’re a non-US individual who owns a single-member LLC, you complete a W-8BEN in your own name, not a W-9.

  • Does the same setup work for US PayPal?

Yes. The same LLC, EIN and US bank account let you apply for US PayPal Business as a US company. In PayPal’s tax certification, a foreign-owned single-member LLC follows the W-8 route, not the W-9.

  • Why would Stripe hold my payouts?

Common reasons include mismatched details across Stripe, your bank and your EIN letter, a website without clear pricing and policies, or activity that doesn’t match the business you described. Fixing the mismatch is usually the fastest way to release a hold.

  • How long until I can accept payments on US platforms?

With GenZone, most founders are fully operational within 7 to 10 business days.
